Horse Racing - National Hunt Courses - Fakenham

National Hunt racing has taken place at Fakenham since 1905 and the course hosts action throughout the winter. The highlight of the season is the Fakenham Silver Cup, which is a class three handicap hurdle ran over two miles, that takes place during their Spring National Hunt meeting in March.

The Prince of Wales is Patron of Fakenham racecourse and officially opened a new £1million Members’ Stand in 2002, which is named after His Royal Highness. Her Majesty the Queen’s horse Gold Award won a Bumper at Fakenham on his first start before running in the 2008 Champion Bumper at the Cheltenham Festival.

Characteristics

This small 1m square track is sharp but the fences are easy.

Uphill run in of 200yds.

Horses are on the turn almost throughout.

It is undulating and suits the handy front funner.

The going rarely becomes heavy.
