Horse Racing - National Hunt Courses - Perth

Perth hosts jump racing throughout the summer months with the highlight being the April Festival meeting. Feature races over the meeting include the Future Champions Novices’ Hurdle, the Old Mout Cider Handicap Chase and the Highland National – as its name suggests a long-distance handicap chase over 3m 7f.

Outside of the Festival, Perth’s other big meeting is their fixture in early June, where the feature race is the Perth Gold cup, a Class 2 race run over just short of three miles.

Characteristics

This is a flat 1m2f oval track with easy fences.
The run in is 300yds in hurdle races and 450yds on the chase course.
The bends are very tight and badly inconvenience the galloping type of horse.
Suits the front runner but beware of any horse that has shown a tendency to hang left as after the first circuit there is an acute right turn.

Course Betting Hints

Horses with good speed figures in handicap chases and handicap hurdles win here at decent prices.
In the same type of races avoid horses that appear well in on form.
